In a nutshell – Adam (Ashton Kutcher) and Emma (Natalie Portman) become friends with benefits – Adam develops feelings for the closed-off Emma – the fight – they part – they reunite – with a climactic ending of course (excuse the pun). Throw in a bit of gross sex humour – it’s the rom-com formula that always “works” right?
Hard to describe what I thought of this one though… There are some hillariously funny bits (ref: pic above and look out for “the period mix” plus other period-related cracks), very clever bits, and then there are the other bits that are really just ”meh”… (Perhaps after Black Swan I wasnt used to seeing Portman without a nail file and a case of severe psychosis?!)
Despite some static moments in the main storyline, the supporting characters and sideline plots were quite good: I loved Emma’s weird Greys-Anatomy-style med-student housemates and the way they interacted with each other; Adam’s boss was so awkward is was great (nothing beats ‘awkward humour’) – and the crazy pommy ex-girlfriend with a fear of old people was also quite entertaining.
So I dont know, up to you to decide whether it’s worth a bag of popcorn and a coke or not, I can’t commit ;)
